Privacy policy

Updated . What this site stores about a visit, and what it does not.

What you type into a calculator or a JSON tool stays in your browser. We count visits with our own analytics, which sets no cookies and has no field for your IP address.

In short

  • What you type stays on your device. No tool sends it to us or to anyone else.
  • No ads, no third-party scripts and no cookies.
  • We count visits ourselves, on our own server. The count records the page, your country, your device and your browser. It never records your name or anything you typed.
  • Our web server keeps an ordinary access log, and that log does include your IP address.
  • To ask us anything, email hello@hatchloop.dev.

What you type

The calculators and JSON tools run in your browser. The numbers, text and JSON you type or paste are worked out on your device, and the page makes no request that carries them. Copy, Download and Print also happen on your device.

After a page has loaded, the only request it makes of its own accord is the visit counter's, described below, and that carries no field values. A tool may fetch more of this site's own code when you use a feature, such as the Excel export; that file is the same for everyone and carries nothing from you.

We do not ask you to take this on trust. The site's build stops if any of its scripts starts to set a cookie, use another kind of browser storage, make a request of its own or mention another host, so this page cannot quietly become untrue.

Sharing a calculation. Where a tool offers a link to your calculation, the numbers in that link come after the # sign (the “fragment”). A browser never sends the fragment to a server, and the visit counter is set to leave it out of the page address it records. A share button, such as WhatsApp, opens that app with the text you chose; nothing is shared until you press it, and we do not see it.

The visit counter

We measure visits with Umami, software we run ourselves on our own server, not a service run by an analytics company. No other company receives its records. For each visit and page view it stores:

What the visit counter stores
StoredWhat it is
Country, region and cityApproximate. They are worked out from your IP address as the page loads; the address itself is not stored, and the database has no field for it.
Device, browser and operating systemFor example “mobile, Chrome, Android”, from what your browser says about itself.
Screen sizeFor example 390 by 844.
LanguageYour browser's language setting, such as en-US.
The page you viewedThe page address including its query string (the part after a ?, such as a campaign tag in a link), and the page title. The part after a # is left out.
Where you came fromThe referrer: the page that linked to us, as your browser reports it. It is often only the name of the site.
Event namesThe name of an action, and never its content. The names are listed below.
Page speedHow long the page took to load and become usable (loading time, the delay before it answers a tap or key, and how much the layout moved). Timings only, with no content.

The event names are the only thing a tool ever tells the counter. They are:

  • primary-action: you pressed the tool's main button, such as Calculate, Generate or Format
  • copy: you copied a result
  • download: you saved a result as a file
  • csv-download: you saved a result as a CSV file
  • xlsx-download: you saved a result as an Excel file
  • print: you printed a result
  • share-link: you asked for a link to your calculation
  • related-click: you followed a link to a related tool
  • menu-open: you opened the menu
  • tool-search: you typed in “Find a tool” (once per page, and never the words you typed)
  • tool-input: you typed or changed something in a tool (once per page, not once per keystroke)

What it does not store. Your name, your email address, a cookie, your IP address or anything you typed. To tell one visit from another it groups the page views of one browser, without a cookie.

Switching it off. It is not set to look at your browser's Do Not Track setting. To switch the counter off for this site in your own browser, set a local storage item named umami.disabled to any value (for example, in your browser's developer console, localStorage.setItem('umami.disabled', 1)), or block the address /u/script.js with a content blocker.

Our server's access log

Like any website, our web server writes a line for every request it answers: the time, your IP address, the address you asked for, the details your browser sends with the request (such as its user agent, language and the page you came from), and our response. We use it to keep the site working and to tell people from automated traffic. The people, and the AI assistants, who run the site can read it.

The log files rotate by size, not by date: each file holds up to 20 MiB and the server keeps the 10 most recent rotated files, deleting the oldest. The server's system journal, which records errors, is kept for at most 7 days.

Cookies and browser storage

We set no cookies, and the visit counter makes its request without them. Two small settings are kept in your browser's local storage (localStorage). They stay on your device, are never sent to us, and can be cleared in your browser's settings at any time.

Who else receives data

  • Nobody receives the visit counter's records but us. We do not sell data and do not share it with advertisers.
  • Every script, stylesheet and font on these pages comes from this site. There are no ads, social buttons or embedded third-party content.
  • Hostinger rents us the server that runs this site and the counter.
  • Vercel runs the name servers (DNS) for hatchloop.dev, so it sees lookups of this site's name. It does not serve the site or carry its traffic.
  • Email you send to hello@hatchloop.dev is received by Forward Email, our email-forwarding service, and delivered to a Google (Gmail) mailbox that our team reads.
  • If you press a share button, the app you choose receives what you chose to share.

Where data is processed

The server is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We operate from Oman.

How long we keep it

  • Access logs: until the size rule above removes them.
  • System journal: at most 7 days.
  • Visit-counter records: we do not yet delete them on a fixed schedule. They hold no name, email address or IP address.
  • Email you send us: with our replies, until you ask us to delete it.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or complain, by writing to hello@hatchloop.dev. We reply within 30 days. If you are in the EU or the UK you may also complain to your own data protection authority.

Who is responsible

TechMate, a joint partnership registered in Muscat, Oman (CR 1661879), is the legal entity behind this site and decides why and how the data above is used. HatchLoop is the name of the product, not a separate company. About has the registration details.
